Obituary for
Marianna Nawarna
In Loving Memory
of
Marianna Nawarna
August 3, 1923 - October 6, 2016
Marianna passed peacefully at the age of 93 years on Thursday, October 6, 2016, after saying goodbye to her beloved family.
She was born in Russia in 1923 to Michael Nawarna and Martha Nizinkuski (both predeceased), is predeceased by all of her siblings Kathy, George, Gregory, Helen, Anne and Clair, and lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews in Europe.
Marianna immigrated to Canada in the late 1940’s following the conclusion of WWII, and resided in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, before moving to Sudbury, Ontario in the early 1980’s. She will always be remembered for her fierce independence and true grit that shone through in everything she did; only reluctantly accepting help as she got well along in her years. Her sewing ability served her well throughout life, and was one of the many ways she provided for her family, regardless of the circumstances. Her cooking skills were also beyond compare, particularly her pierogis and cabbage rolls, and you could always count on an ear-to-ear grin when her children or grandchildren brought her fresh-caught fish – what a treat!
Marianna’s legacy is defined by her family: children; Christine Poropat (Tony), Barbara Staszak (Richard Chenier) both predeceased, and George Staszak (Kathy), her grandchildren; Jason Chenier predeceased (Tracy), Mark Poropat (Jianna Zomer), Jennifer Chenier (Sabino Di Paolo), Melissa Staszak (Jordan Martel), Laurie Donaldson (Jonathan), and Robert Staszak, and her great-grandchildren; Alexander, Danika, Grant and Mackenzie.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of the staff at the Intensive Care Unit – Health Sciences North over the last few days, for ensuring that she received the best quality of care and that she was comfortable throughout her stay.
