Obituary for Reino "Ray" Ahola

Reino (Ray) Emil Ahola

Reino (Ray) Emil Ahola passed away with the love of his family surrounding him on November 9, 2016 at Extendicare Falconbridge. Ray was born to Emil and Hilma (Koski) Ahola (both predeceased) on July 16, 1930. Loving husband of Jean Doreen (Nicholson) Ahola (predeceased 2010).

Loving father of Sandra Belanger (Ken) of Garson and Kathryn Santerre (Roger predeceased) of Alban. Survived by 5 grandchildren; Ken Belanger Jr. (Suzette), Lisa Belanger (Rob Dyer), Chris Belanger (Sue Lemieux), Kayna Bardell (Chris) and Shana Dubroy. He was Grampa Ray to 10 great grandchildren; Mackenzie, Kennedy, Kieffer, Destinie, Owen, Corbin, Kendra, Emma, Quinn and Kasidee.

Ray was predeceased by his sister Bertha and her husband Carl Maki and by his brother Oliver and his wife Joan. He will be missed by his loving in-laws Lena Nicholson (Jim predeceased) of North Bay and Inez and Walter Forgiel of Toronto.

Ray was very proud to have been a Police Officer, working in different areas before they all amalgamated into one, as we became the Greater City of Sudbury and to have been collecting his pension for longer than he worked.

Before retirement, winter holidays were spent in Hawaii or Florida. Holiday Travel Park in Florida became their winter home after retirement where they joined many Sudbury and Falconbridge friends for the New Year’s Party at the clubhouse each year and spent happy winters for 15 years. Ray aced the 124 yard, No. 7 hole at Magnolia Valley and was very proud of his accomplishment.

Ray moved to Extendicare Falconbridge in 2014. The staff, who cared for him with love on 4 West, became his second family. You will never be forgotten. We will remember you always with our gratitude.

At Ray’s request there will be no public visitation, direct cremation. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service (A Celebration of Ray’s Life) at St. John the Evangelist Church on Church Street in Garson on Friday, November 25, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a reception in the Church Hall. The ashes will be placed in the mausoleum on Second Ave. and placed in Eternal Rest in the Family Niche.

At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Maison Vale Hospice.

When a loved one becomes a memory, a memory becomes a treasure.

Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home.
