Obituary for
Walter "Wally" Skwarek
In Loving Memory
Of
Walter (Wally) Skwarek
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce his peaceful passing at the age of 88 years, April 4th, 1928 – January 8th, 2017.
Beloved husband of Joan (nee Coddington). Son of John and Genowefa Skwarek, both predeceased. Son-in-law of Bruce and Millie Campbell, predeceased. Loving and devoted father of Judy Hunda (David, predeceased) and Barbara Fortier (Douglas Petitclerc). Loving grandfather of Melissa Hunda (Jean Guy Guenette), Sarah Whiteduck, Becky Hunda and Jesse Arnett (Roark). Loving great grandfather of Braedan, Rory, Izzy, Hannah (predeceased), Noah, Kennah and Lockett. Step-grandfather of Kristina, Matthew, Stephanie, Jennifer, Michael, Cameron and Crystal. Brother of Cas, Marcel, Marie Thompson, Ted, Jean Adams, Louise Garrett and Evelyn, all predeceased. Survived by sister Joanne Jasinski (Joe) and brother Monty (Diane).
Wally lived for his family. His wife, daughters, granddaughters and great-grandchildren were the absolute sunshine of his life – a song he sang over and over to them all. Born on a farm in Prawda, Manitoba, he was a hard worker his entire life. He moved to Sudbury as a young man where he met and married Joan, his wife of 65 years, had two daughters, and planted the roots of his family tree firmly in the ground on “Grampa’s Mountain” on Martindale Road until his passing. He worked at INCO until retirement, but never to be idle, he owned and operated a number of successful businesses during and after his INCO career. Wally was one of Sudbury’s first disc jockeys, Associate Tape, and was proud to have supplied the music for many weddings and parties over more than twenty years. He enjoyed playing cards and was known to have been a pretty good poker player. He enjoyed playing a number of sports, excelling in baseball in his younger years, then curling, bowling and developing a great love of golf in his later years, all of which he did well into his eighties. He also loved to fish, and had knowledge of a number of “lost lakes” in the Levack and Sudbury areas. Wally was a longtime parishioner of St. Mark’s United Church and was an active member for most of his life. Wally was a friend to many, and always the first to lend a hand to anyone in need. He leaves his family with a legacy of having demonstrated the true meaning of unconditional love, and while we celebrate having had him in our lives for as long as we were privileged to have him, he will be very greatly missed. So long beloved one, until we meet again.
