Who passed away on Sunday, February 12th, 2017.
He was born in Arthur Township, Wellington County, Ontario in 1921, the son of William and Anna (Costello) Hayes. Beloved husband of Thelma (McEachern) Hayes whom he married in Espanola in 1952. Loving father of Douglas (Wendy), David (Karen), Ann Contini (Gino), Jim (Barbara) all of Sudbury and Robert (Helena) of Barrie. Grandfather of David, Brian (Melissa), Andrew, Nicholas, Allison, Christopher, Amy, Erin, Timothy and Ryan. Great grandfather of Jacob and Joshua. Dear brother of Lambert (Mary), Madeleine Goetz (Bill), Angela, Shirley, Michael (Helen) all deceased. Survived by brothers Jim (Joyce) of Kelowna, B.C. and Bill (Frances) of Skead, also by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a Veteran of the Second World War having served in the Royal Canadian Navy for five years as a Chief Petty Officer. He worked for Pioneer Construction Inc. for 40 years retiring as Vice-President and General Manager and then in an advisory capacity for several years. He was a member of the Tribal Class Destroyer Association, the Canadian Naval Association, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76 and the Knights of Columbus. He was a faithful member of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church.

Thursday, February 16th, 2017 at 10:00 A.M.
Interment in the Civic Cemetery, Sudbury.
