Obituary for
Jozef "Joe" Cyrwus
In Loving Memory
of
Jozef (Joe) Cyrwus
Peacefully went home to be with the Lord at age 96 on Wednesday, February 22nd, 2017 at Health Sciences North, Sudbury with loving family by his side.
Beloved husband of Mary who left us last June to make the journey ahead of Joe. We are deeply comforted they are reunited now. Loving father of Brian Schultz (Christine), Caroline Cyrwus and Micheal Cyrwus (Kaia). Cherished grandpa of Tasha (Jim), Vicky (Bob), Maiki, Mia and Robert and great grandpa of Alex, Haley, Romy, Garrett, Carly, Ava and Luke. Dear son of the late Wojciech and Karolina (nee Gocek) Cyrwus. Predeceased by siblings Wojtek, Frank, Mary, Judy and Jan.
Born in Nowy Targ, Poland, Joe's quiet life in the hills of southern Poland was shattered by the outbreak of WWII. In 1947 Joe joined the mass migration of displaced persons to Canada, coming first to White River then in 1948 to Garson where he joined INCO. In 1956 Joe was introduced by friends to the love of his life, Mary, marrying soon after and starting their family. All of Joe's years at INCO were spent at Garson Mine where he made many fast friends, and from which he always brought home stories of the antics going on there. After his retirement, Joe spent many happy years in Garson tending to his ever expanding garden, clearing the bush of all the blueberries he possibly could, taking his long walks through town, and enjoying the company of family and friends. The sweet charm, mischievous sense of humour and deep love for family of our "Tatto" will live forever in our hearts.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the dedicated and caring doctors, nurses and support staff at Health Sciences North, 8th floor for the wonderful attention and special kindness shown to our father in his final days. Many thanks as well to Community Care Access Centre and ParaMed staff for all their excellent care and compassion, and to the always supportive church community of St. John the Evangelist, Garson.
