Obituary for
Audrey Eileen Chapman (Wren)
In Loving Memory
Of
Audrey Eileen Chapman (nee Wren)
94 years
Who passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Monday, March 6th, 2017 at Health Sciences North, Sudbury.
Cherished wife of David Chapman for 72 years. Dearly beloved mother of Wendy (husband Len McNamara), Bev of Sudbury and Laurie (husband Randy Edger) of Millbrook, Ontario. Loving grandmother of Scott McNamara of Toronto and Kevin and Courtney McNamara of Vaughan, Ontario. Also missed by sisters in law Pat and Shirley Chapman and many nieces and nephews.
Audrey was born on April 1st, 1922 to John and Lilian Wren both predeceased. She grew up and worked in Toronto until she met David and came to live in Sudbury after they were married on April 8th, 1944. Audrey initially worked at Birks Jewelers and then spent many happy years raising her three girls. She later returned to work as a library clerk and secretary for the public school board until her retirement.
Audrey loved to travel and visited many countries during her life. She was also an avid reader, a superb cook, a gifted knitter and an accomplished gardener. She enjoyed playing bridge and other card games. As well, she was a long-time member of St. Andrew’s United Church, serving on the Congregational Fellowship Committee and working at a variety of functions for many years. However, her family was always the center of her life.
In later years Audrey faced many health challenges but did so with remarkable courage and grace. She never complained.
The family wishes to express our sincere thanks to Dr. T. Urban, Jennifer and the staff of Brady Clinic for their many years of excellent care. We also deeply appreciate the paramedics who answered our calls, the staff of the ER Department at HSN and, especially, the amazing doctors, nurses and PSW’s of HSN 4th Floor Palliative Care Wing for their exceptional care and compassion. Special thanks, too, to Margaret, Sandra and Howard for their treasured friendships and to The Rev. Catherine Somerville and The Rev. Dr. Bill Steadman for their faithful support.
