Peacefully in her home on Monday, March 6th, 2017 with her family surrounding her.

Beloved wife of Henry “Hank” Sbrega (predeceased). Loving mother of Nancy DiCarlantonio (husband Ricco), Caroline Sbrega (friend Gary Mauro) and Danny Sbrega. Cherished grandmother of Ricco (wife Masami), Melissa, David and great grandson Toyoki, and niece Helen Ranta. Dear daughter of Wilhelmena and Otto Ranta (predeceased). Siblings Sylvie Ranta (predeceased), Helia Ranta (predeceased), Tyine Ranta (predeceased), Anne Skinner (predeceased), Bill Ranta (predeceased), John Ranta (predeceased)and nephew Morgan Ranta (predeceased). Dear friend to Hilda Leuschen (predeceased). Sadly missed by many cousins, nieces and nephews ,family and friends whom she loved dearly.

Irene will be remembered as a generous, thoughtful woman with a young-at-heart disposition and quick wit even till the end. She battled every challenge life threw her way with “SISU” the Finnish word meaning (determined, brave, tenacious…) and that was her strong character trait. Her devotion to family was above all the most important thing in life, doting on her beloved grandchildren and precious doggies (Molly, Teko, Gizmo) and how fortunate it was to be loved by her. In her long and fruitful life, mom enjoyed many social activities, a devout member of the church, singing in the choir, playing badminton, curling, golfing and especially loving to dance with dad at the Legion and Seniors Club.
Hyvää Yötä Äiti ... So long for now.

Memorial service to be held in Trinity United Church, Capreol, Saturday, April 8th, 2017 at 1pm.
