Condolences

Condolence From: Simon Guillet
Condolence: Our sincere condolences to Pat and the family. We just found out, too late to attend, about this kind soul's passing.
Ray Thomson was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He was a brilliant, compassionate and fair union leader who was respected by everyone on both sides of the bargaining table. He was responsible for getting me, and many others, involved in the union. He had no enemies, only friends and admirers. He was one in a million, and will surely be missed.

Condolence: Thanks to our late father Ron, my sister Viv and I had the pleasure of visiting with Ray and Pat on Remembrance Day every year since Dad died in 2002. We wanted to honour Dad's friendship with a man he respected and enjoyed his time with.
Two old soldiers are surely enjoying a very special reunion. Viv and I wish you all peace and comfort.

Condolence From: Diane and Jon Duncan
Condolence: We are volunteers at St. Joseph's Villa and in 2011 had the privilege to have wonderful conversations with Ray and Pat as we helped them write their memoirs. Their journeys reminded us of what is truly essential in life especially their love for each other and for their family. We offer our sympathy and hope that your memories of Pappy sustain you at this time.

Condolence: I didn’t see Uncle Pappy very often these past years, but when I did, it felt as if time had stood still; Pappy remained just as I remembered him from when I was a child and young adult. I didn’t know then of Uncle Pappy’s many contributions to his community. But I knew that in a room full of noisy adults typical of our family get togethers, Uncle Pappy would be the one to scooch over on the couch and make conversation with a child. And he would chuckle, a warm quiet chuckle that started from what at that time was an abundant girth.

I loved that chuckle. I never heard it erupt into a raucous laugh; it always had a lightness and joy in it that was reflected in his eyes and in his entire being. I never heard a mean or spiteful word from him nor about him. I will always remember Uncle Pappy as a source of gentleness, good humour, love and personal attentiveness to those around him. I thank God for having known our Uncle Pappy.

May the love Pappy nurtured in his life continue to support his family and those he leaves behind.

Condolence: Pappy was my father-in-law for 26 years and I loved him. He was a very special man, with a positive outlook and a quick and quiet sense of humour. He was kind and thoughtful and a genuine gentleman. His spirit will live on and bring light to his journey as he returns to where life begins.

Condolence: I got to know Ray when I was in university. I went to his house frequently with Will. I knew Ray to be a very generous man, and I don't recollect ever hearing him speak harshly. He always had insights into the world that showed a keen intellect, and quick mind, that impressed me.

He always had time for us boys, as we were then, and was always up for laughs, and fun. He had a great sense of humour and was fun to be around. I always enjoyed going to Ray's with Will and hold very fond memories of time with him.

He will be missed.

Condolence: Reading the many accomplishments during his lifetime should inspire the youth of our country to follow in Ray's footsteps! God Bless.
