Obituary for
Edna Marie Albert (Bedford)
The life of Edna Marie Albert came to an end this morning, June 3rd, 2017. She was born in 1931, the daughter of coal miner Allan Bedford and Clara Sutherland Bedford, in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia. At three years old, Edna lost her mom, who died giving birth to Allan Augusta Bedford, who would not survive. At sixteen, Edna’s younger sister Christine died of rheumatic fever. Soon after, Edna left home to make a life in Montreal, a city that forever captured her heart – much like the man she would soon fall in love with. Rodolphe Albert and Edna Bedford met in 1952 and made their lives in Levack, where they raised six children together. Edna loved being a mother. She was a natural and had an amazing connection with kids all through her life (likely because she herself would remain forever young at heart). Growing up, her home was always filled with the sounds of children playing. Every neighbourhood kid was welcome.
In 1971, the family suffered an irrevocable loss when their oldest child and only son, Rudy, was killed in a motorcycle accident. He was eighteen. Edna lost her second Rudy in July of 2014. Dad was 84. Surviving are her children Margot (Robert Young), Monique (Allan Jones), Jocelyne (Patrick George), Jody (Brad Meadows), and Belinda (Brian Kozicki), her thirteen grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren.
Edna Albert had an amazing wit, a wonderful sense of humour, and she loved to laugh. An avid reader and news junkie, she had recently fostered an incredible and very entertaining aversion to President Donald Trump. We will miss you, Mom.
