Obituary for Adelina "Lena" Semeniuk (Flora)

Adelina "Lena" Semeniuk (Flora)
In Loving Memory
of
Adelina “Lena” (Flora) Semeniuk
90 years

Saturday, August 12th, 2017 at Pioneer Manor.

Beloved wife of Steve Semeniuk predeceased 2000. Loving mother of Arlene (David Paganucci), Alfred (Cheryl) and Brenda (Terry Monaghan). Cherished Nonna of Andrew Paganucci, Nathan Paganucci (Amanda), Alysa Davidson (Jake), Mallory Turgeon (Marc) and Bisnonna of Logan, Makenna and Charlotte. Dear daughter of Pietro and Maria (Di Paoli) Flora both predeceased. Dear sister of Adolpho (Norma), Carmello (Miriam), Ugo (Rita), Elvira (Galiano Fulin), Cesira (Calisto Flabiano and Adolpho Freschi), Elio (Tina) all predeceased and Arletta predeceased (Emil “Hurlie” Hreljac). Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.

Lena's passing marks the end of a generation that began well over a hundred years ago. She was the last of the eight Flora siblings to leave us. She was born in 1927 in Creighton Mine and lived there until moving to Lively in 1972. She always maintained a great affection for the close-knit community of Creighton and proudly attended many Creighton reunions.

Lena was an accomplished seamstress and tailor. She produced very many perfectly fitted garments for herself and family members. She did exquisite crochet, knitting, embroidery, and tatting. Her specialties in the kitchen were gnocchi, pyrohy, and Nanaimo bars. She loved being with her grandchildren, taking them to the playground, reading to them, and cheering at their hockey games. Lena loved reading, and books, and her libraries. She worked at the Creighton Mine Public library until its closure, and at the Lively Public Library. After her mandatory retirement, she continued to volunteer many hours at the library.

Lena enjoyed badminton, bowling, playing cards with her sisters and friends, crossword puzzles, and bingo. She continued these activities for as long as she could at Meadowbrook and Pioneer Manor. We thank the staff of these two homes for their kindness in caring for our Mother. Thanks also to Dr. Jacques and Dr. Levasseur.

In lieu of flowers, we know Lena would appreciate donations to the Lively Branch of the Greater Sudbury Library, or a library of your choosing.
