Glen Irvin Burns
Burns – Glen
The family of the late Glen Burns with gratitude and blessings wish to thank all our friends who attended the visitation and the Service of Celebration, also all the friends from Sudbury and other communities, for the many beautiful cards of condolences and loving warm thoughts. It makes a difference. To Rev. Pastor Jeremy Mahood, Eileen Mahood, Elders, Staff and the Family of All Nations Church for your love and support. Thank you Janice for the Eulogy. Who would have guessed about the “yellow rope”? grandsons Aaron and Jonathan speaking from the heart and touching many hearts. Thank you David for your strong helping hands. It makes the task much lighter. To Piper – Derek Young, thank you for stirring our hearts with “Flowers of the Forest” and “Going Home”, for the gift of music, praise and worship with John Felsman, Music Director, Julie Sykora, Luc Boileau and Drummer – Atheson Harper and Stewart Doran for singing a solo, “How Great Thou Art.” To Gerry Lougheed Jr., for your kind and caring ways and your wonderful, supportive and very helpful staff, it made our journey much easier. Helvi’s catering – the reception, an amazing job. The staff at the Cardiac 8th floor of Health Sciences North – much appreciated. Thanks to all.
Jean Burns and Family

Glen Burns
March 24, 1930 – January 28, 2018
The family of Glen Burns is celebrating the many loving memories of him as a son, brother, husband, son-in-law, brother-in-law, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Glen passed to a new life at the age of 87 on January 28, 2018 surrounded and supported by his family’s love at Life Sciences Center, Sudbury Ontario due to congestive heart failure.
Glen was born on March 24, 1930 to John and Delta Rae Burns (Payne) in Lanark, Ontario. The family migrated to Sudbury during the Great Depression leaving behind the family farm moving forward with new hopes and dreams. This is where Glen met his future wife Jean -- his high school sweetheart. It was love at first sight.
Glen greeted each day as a precious gift from God and he lived each moment fully for God, his church, his family and the country of his birth, Canada. Glen had a great love for people and his community. This was often evidenced by his helping hand extended to those in need. If a friendship was needed, his would be the truest. During his lifetime, Glen had an ongoing interest in social issues that would shape the generations to come.
Glen was a lifetime member of All Nations Church as well as a lifetime Elder of the Board of Elders. He was a lifetime member of the Gideons of Canada. For many years, Glen was an active member of the Conservative Party of Canada and he worked tirelessly during many lections. Glen was the Chairman of the Boy Scouts of Canada, 14th Sudbury Division. For many years, he mentored and encouraged young people to follow a pathway of faith and excellence in the pursuit of a future that would build strong families, strong communities and a strong country. Glen was a Stationary Engineer and he retired from INCO in 1984 as the supervisor of the Copper Cliff Smelter.
Fairbank Cottage was a special family paradise and a gathering place for much laughter and lively discussions covering many subjects. There was always space available for anyone aspiring to learn to play a new instrument such as the bagpipe chanter. There was lots of wood splitting, unlimited food and much love.
Glen was the beloved Husband of Jean Burns for almost 65 incredible years. He was the loving and devoted Father of Janice Aarssen-Bruyns (husband Lonnie Aarssen), David Burns (wife Michelle) and his infant daughter Monica Karen (predeceased). He was the cherished Grandpa, Grandpa Glen and Pompa of Aaron Bruyns (Stephanie), Jonathan Bruyns (Jessica), Jon Aarssen and Ben Aarssen (Damara) and Great Grandfather to Tristen Aarssen and Aiva. He was the caring big brother to Frances Manthorne (husband Milford, both predeceased), the loving brother-in-law to Gloria and Del Anderson, and uncle to Mark, Russell, Laura Jean Anderson and Bryan Manthorne.
Glen leaves behind a great heritage of his steadfast faith. The many examples of his strong character for us to continue to emulate and the many numerous memories filled with his love and laughter will be with us forever.
He will certainly be missed by our family pups -- Gibson, Roxanne, Macey and Finn.
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself that where I am, there you may be also.”
John 14:1-3
