Obituary for Laurie Thornton Plourde (Lamothe)

Goin' up to the spirit in the sky
That's where I'm gonna go when I die
When I die and they lay me to rest
Gonna go to the place that's the best

After a long, courageous battle with cancer, Laurie began her ‘Spirit in the Sky’ journey at home, in the early morning hours of February 20th, 2018 at the age of 56, peacefully surrounded by her loved ones and her feline sidekick, Hannah. Beloved wife and soul mate of 28 years to John Plourde. Daughter of Joffre Lamothe of Mattawa/Sudbury and the late Bernice (née Lapensée) Dupuis. Cherished mother of Jill Thornton (Tom) of Calgary and Kylene Plourde (David) of Garson. Laurie’s three siblings will miss her dearly; sisters Joanne Lamothe of Sudbury and Christine Mick (Terrie) of Manitoulin Island, and brother Keith Lamothe (Jacinthe) of Sudbury. Loving “Matante” of Chad, Roxanne, Jessica, Owen, Ben, Mattie, Seb & Sophie, and loyal friend to her besties, Tammy, Karen & Sally, as well as her many friends, coworkers, and clients.
Laurie devoted her life to caring for those she loved. She leaves the legacy of selflessness as she maintained a revolving door policy to everyone, including her daughters’ friends who also called her "Mom".
She loved the outdoors, campfires, her music, boating, camping, redecorating, travelling,
living it up with her friends, and her most recent love, the casino! Laurie was the life of the party and will always be remembered for her quick wit and hilarious stories.
The family will receive relatives and friends for memorial prayers in the R.J. Barnard Chapel, Jackson & Barnard Chapel, 233 Larch St., Sudbury on Saturday, February 24th, 2018 at 1pm (Friends may gather after 12:30pm). In lieu of flowers, donations by cheque to the “Sébastien Bois Trust Fund” will be gracefully accepted.
Special thanks to her Cancer Centre team (Dr. Pitre/Dr. Pun) & volunteers, and Tracy (Bayshore) for their professional and compassionate care, and to friends and family who helped make this transition a little easier for her and our family. Words alone cannot express our most sincere love and gratitude.
