Obituary for Donald Charles Horner

In loving memory of Donald “Red” Charlie Douglas Horner. 83 years.
Don passed peacefully, Friday afternoon, March 16, 2018 at Health Sciences North with family by his side. Beloved husband of 62 years to Helene Horner (nee Labatte) of Skead. Loving father of David (wife Dale), Douglas (wife Doris), Charles (wife Joanne) and Herbert (wife Lauri). Cherished grandpa of Kara-Lee Milley (Danny), Kristy Nault (Brad), Taylor Maki, Alexandra, Adam, Andrew Ryan, and Taylor Horner. Great grandpa to Zackery and Jaxson. Dear son of the late Dave and Pearl (Moorhead) Horner. Also predeceased by his brother Keith. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.
Donald was born in Campbells Bay, Quebec and arrived in Sudbury in 1952. He began working at Falconbridge Nickel Mines, retiring in 1987 from his position as Maintenance Supervisor. He met his wife Helene in 1953, marrying in Skead in 1956. Donald enjoyed his community life in Skead and a long retirement—12 of those years at their winter home and community in Harlingen, Texas. Donald was happiest helping people whether grass cutting at the church or helping his sons work on their homes. Throughout the years he volunteered his time with many community organizations.
Donald will forever be remembered by family and friends for his sense of humor and positive nature. He was truly a role model for always making a point to be nice to those around him.
The family will honor Donald’s request of no visitation. Cremation.
A celebration of Donald’s life will be held at the Skead Community Centre on
Thursday March 22, 11 am – 1 pm.
Interment in St. John’s Cemetery, Garson, family plot in the springtime.
