Obituary for Ernest Robert Lekun

LEKUN, Ernest Robert “Ernie”

In loving memory of Ernest Lekun who died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on April 13th 2018.
Born October 13th 1937 in Sudbury, Ernest was the son of John and Mary Lekun (nee Sushelnitski), both predeceased. Beloved husband of Marlene Lekun (nee Dupuis) married 57 years. Father of Allan Lekun (Nicole) and John Lekun (Melanie). Gigi to Ryan, Katelyn (Scott), Keely and Mikayla.
Grew up in, and was proud of his Creighton roots, he was a well-recognized lineman of the Sudbury Hardrocks, Sturgeon Falls Bombers and Sudbury Spartans. He then coached the defensive line of the Sudbury Spartans and was inducted into the NFC Hall of Fame in 1990. He loved his time fishing with Lorne Jaworski and Butch Dupuis. He took great pride in his gardening and yard work, followed by 4 o’clock happy hour, poolside. He cherished every moment with his grandchildren and family, always willing to lend a helping hand.
Anyone who was fortunate enough to meet him will fondly remember his smile and sense of humour. He never failed to make you laugh, and you always looked forward to spending time with him again.
Special thanks to the nurses and doctors who cared for him.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church where he was a devoted parishioner and volunteer.
