MERCEDES MARY AUBIN (CLARKE)
October 16, 1926- April 14, 2018

An angel earned her wings the morning of Saturday April 14, 2018. It is with heavy hearts we said good-bye to an amazing woman who made our world a better place to be. Mercedes Aubin passed away peacefully surrounded by the warmth and love of family.
Dear daughter of the late Patrick Clarke and Molly Clarke (nee White) and the beloved best friend of Fern Aubin (predeceased 2012). Loving mother to Carol Aubin (Greg McKegg predeceased 2015)(Harold Keeping) of Sudbury, Paul Aubin (Brenda) of Sudbury, Dona Aubin of Sudbury, and Lori Rowe of British Columbia. Beloved sister to Madeline Sinnott (predeceased 2011) and Tom Clarke (predeceased 1989). Loving Sister-in-law to June Aubin (Toronto). Special aunt to John, Sharon, Joanne, Lorraine, Christine, Michelle and Lesley, Lorna and Tom and blessed God Mother to Jillian, all from Newfoundland, Diane Huard (Maurice) of Val Caron, Giselle Hall (Bob) of Port Hope and Denis Lavoie (Shirley predeceased) of Shelburne.

”Nanna” to her grandchildren, Nathan Aubin, Kristen Aubin of Sudbury. Great grandmother to Christian, Kaeden, Tyson and Devyn (Penny Laine Rhodes). Mercedes had a very special place in her heart for Alan Sage (predeceased) and David Bedard. Lifelong friend to Terry and Ewald Prass and Pansey Wagner (Raymond - predeceased 2018).

Mercedes Mary Clarke was born in St. John’s Newfoundland where she met and fell in love with Fern Aubin. In 1946 she immigrated to Canada to marry her soul mate. They made Sudbury their home for over 66 years and raised four children. Mercedes, who was affectionately known to many as “Ducky”, graced this earth with pride, dignity, love and kindness. As a proud Newfoundlander she returned to her roots to visit her family often.

Throughout Mercedes’ life she enjoyed so many things: the life shared with Fern, her home, gardening, card games with friends, spending a few winter months in Florida, her cats, yard sales, trips to Killarney, shopping excursions across the border, her daily walks and exercise classes. Towards the end of mom’s journey she loved the warmth of the sun sitting out on her new deck and spending time with visitors. Whatever Ducky did she enjoyed to the fullest with that beautiful smile on her face and sparkle in her eyes.
In the past year Mercedes was blessed with angels that grew to love and care for her as their own. A warm and heartfelt thank you to Rachel, Florence, Sue, Ashley, Rayvin and Jayda.

She will be forever in our hearts and alive in our memories through her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the loving friends she was so very blessed with. These precious memories will bring back smiles to replace our tears through this most difficult time. We can be happy to know our wonderful mother has been reunited with her maker and her beloved Fern. Mercedes touched the hearts of all those she met and we are forever blessed to have shared our lives with her.
A special thank you to: Dr. Mark Dube for the many years of professional care and affection he provided for our mother; Sue Moroso of the North East Local Health Integration Network for her continued support for the past year and a half; The truly amazing staff and residents of Finlandia Village for their kindness, care and compassion in the final part of mom’s journey.
