Obituary for Catherine "Katie" Christakos (Booth)

Catherine (Katie) Christakos (Booth), 86 years of age, passed away on Thursday April 19th at St. Joseph’s Villa surrounded by family. She was born February 7, 1932, and was a Sudbury resident her entire life with the exception of the year she attended Normal School in 1951. She taught grades 4, 5 and 6 at Landsdowne Public School for 10 years. Catherine was married August 16, 1956 to her husband George. Katie leaves behind her beloved children Donna Harakas (Andy), Jim (Stacey) and Andrew (Kelly) and grandchildren Amanda, John, George, Catherine and Nicholas. Katie was predeceased by her loving husband George and her parents James and Margaret Booth. She was the much loved sister of Peter Booth (Ana), Charlie Booth (Anita) and Philip (Linda). Katie was the loving sister-in-law to Gloria Bazos and Ignatios Voudoukis, and a wonderful aunt to many nieces and nephews. Katie remained in touch with her Normal School colleagues and enjoyed the reunions. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for over 60 years. She loved participating in sorority activities and continued to do so as a resident of St. Joseph’s Villa. Katie was a devoted member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church where she sang in the choir. She had very special friendships with the ladies of the Greek community. In earlier years she was also a member of the Church of the Epiphany. Katie wanted to be close to nature and enjoyed her walks. She also loved the arts including theater, opera, and music. She looked forward to visiting Art museums with Donna. As well she loved Frank Sinatra, classic movies, and musicals. Katie also had a special relationship with her sisters-in-law Ana and Anita, sharing conversation and laughter over butter tarts and coffee. Katie was most proud of her family and her eyes would always light up in their presence. Katie lived a full and happy life and she valued family, friendships, freedom, and independence. She will be missed by all who knew her. Special thanks to the staff at St. Joseph’s Villa who provided her with wonderful care.
