Obituary for Harsharan Singh Dhatt

On May 15th we lost one of the most important people in our lives.

Harsharan Singh Dhatt born on March 12, 1936 in Hoshiarpur, India was a man destined to change the world. Awarded a scholarship to study Applied Science in England, he was one of a group of talented engineers that referred to themselves as the Manchester 5. This group spread around the world and raised the bar for Indian Engineers on an international stage.

Driven by his passion for work and family, our father worked 30 years at Falconbridge earning the respect of those around him for his talent and professionalism. Since his retirement, he enjoyed his winters in Florida- golfing, biking, meeting with friends and playing bridge. He loved music, reading and a good glass of scotch. More than anything, he loved his family. His selflessness, kindness and vision for a better world was fundamental in how he raised his children and allowed us to achieve successes that seemed inconceivable. He changed the world through us.

Despite hardships, he never complained about physical or mental anguish. In his final days, his faith and inner peace inspired us to look inside ourselves for the grace to let him go.

In his absence, our father parts ways with his soulmate, Bhagwant, his three children and their partners; Reena and Michel, Preet and Paul and Harjot and Crestina to carry on his legacy of love not only to our family but all those who touch our lives. His grandchildren Kiran, Simran, Shaan, Yasmine, Taran, Gaia, Shavi and Khush all carry his indomitable spirit and his passion for life.

To those who have touched his life, please come and join us on Saturday, June 23rd at 885 Prete St. between 10 am and 4 pm for a Celebration of Life.
In lieu of cut flowers we welcome you to bring a rose to plant in our Memorial garden.

Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home.
