Obituary for Mary Slobodian (Elaschuk)

In
Loving Memory
of
Mary Slobodian
(nee Elaschuk)

who peacefully passed Sunday, July 8th, 2018. Beloved wife of Fred Slobodian predeceased. Loving mother of Jerry predeceased (Lucie) and Irene Flowerday (Peter). Cherished Baba of Christopher (Samantha), Matthew, Deana Ferguson (Darryl), and Amy Flowerday-Morphet (Jamie). Loving Great-Baba to Aubree, Greyson, and Declan. Predeceased by brothers Matt Elaschuk and Bill Osachuk. Dear sister-in-law to Nettie Slobodian and Joan Slobodian. Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.

Born in Insinger, Saskatchewan, Mary came to Sudbury with her family where she met the love of her life, her charming husband Fred. Life was happy and beautiful for their young family until Fred was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. As a devout Catholic, her faith in God brought her tremendous strength and peace. Mary’s love and dedication helped her as she worked for 25 years at the Sudbury Memorial Hospital. Mary will be remembered for her generosity, compassion and nurturing manner. Baba enjoyed sharing her knowledge and love for her Ukrainian culture and passed down many special Ukrainian traditions to her children and grandchildren. She took great pride in watching her family grow. Family dinners with Baba’s culinary delights of pyrohy, holubtsi, and borscht made everyone fall in love with her Ukrainian cooking. Many treasured moments were shared around her kitchen table. Baba will be greatly and sadly missed and remembered for her faith, strength, hope, and love. We love you, Baba. Vichnaya Pamyat.
