Romaine M. LaSalle of Capreol, with her devoted daughter, Claudette and son-in-law, Joe Gasbarini at her side, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 8th, after suffering a massive stroke.
In her final days Romaine was surrounded by love as family members and cherished friends gathered at her bedside to say their final goodbyes, in person and by phone, to the woman who meant so much to them. We know Romaine was grateful to all for this outpouring of love and respect, as are we.
Romaine was a unique character who lived her life to the fullest. She was a respected teacher for many years. After she retired she threw herself wholeheartedly into the things she loved to do, especially volunteering and travelling. Romaine often said, “I have had a very good life.” So we know she left with no regrets.
In keeping with Romaine’s wishes there will be no funeral. Claudette found a note from her mother that read, “Tell everyone to go live their lives and do not mourn over me.” Anyone who knew Romaine will hear her stating that very firmly and with “the look”.
To honour Romaine’s memory that is exactly what we will do.
Romaine was predeceased by her parents Roméa and Thomas Gordon, brother Raymond Gordon, son Andy LaSalle, beloved granddaughter Katharine Gasbarini and her loving and devoted husband Theodore LaSalle with whom she is joyfully reunited.
Romaine will be forever missed by her daughter Claudette and her husband Joe Gasbarini, her granddaughter Sara Lopetrone (Sal), her grandsons Andrew and Evan Cunningham (Andy’s sons), her three great-grandsons Luca, Mateo and Nico Lopetrone, who were her pride and joy! Also missed by her sister Elizabeth Zmijowskyj and her brother George Gordon, gentleman friend Jack Barrand with whom she shared a very special friendship. Cherished friends Hoa and Hanh Tran, Kim Cuc Ngygen and Aline Tran Williams (Matt). Deena Zmijowskyj and Colette Proulx who were always there for Romaine, in good times and bad. Anne Zmijowskyj and Brian Affleck, who went out of their way to help their Auntie. Also by many nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.
Claudette found the following in several places of her mother’s house and she took it as a sign that her Mom wanted it shared.
“Our life is just a vapor, it vanishes away…So do what you can today, because you can never be sure whether this is your winter or not.”
In lieu of flowers donations to Maison McCulloch Hospice would be appreciated.
No funeral visitation or service.
Cremation with interment in the family plot at Capreol Cemetery.
