Obituary for
Elsie Solski (Kotyluk)
Solski, Elsie J. (nee Kotyluk)
Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep July 12th, 2018 in her 89th year.
Preceded in death by her husband Nick (2009), son-in-law Michael Chyz, parents Michael and Mary Kotyluk, sister Edith Savage, brother Edward Kotyluk and in-laws Bud Savage, Mike and Irene Solski, Mary and Nick Skakoon, Jessie Solski, Bruno Solski and Peter Solski.
Dear mother of Donna and Bruce and beloved Baba of Kira Chyz (Talon Keys). Missed by her four-legged companion and protector Charlie.
Remembered by her brother Bob Kotyluk, sister’s in-law Marilyn Kotyluk, Lovey Kotyluk, Stella Solski, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mom was a storyteller about everything from years gone by. Always eager to share her memories about her times as child growing up in rural Manitoba, moving to Sudbury with her family, meeting and marrying Nick and all of the adventures shared over the years with family and friends.
She worked as a young woman in retail at Mack’s Clothing in the Donovan and then stayed home to raise their children.
She returned to work at Canadian Tire in the 1970s, retiring from there only after she and dad were satisfied that they had purchased everything they might ever acquire with her employee discount.
2018 marks the 60th year of her membership in the CWL at Holy Trinity and Christ the King churches. In the mid 1950s she became a volunteer with the VON auxiliary that was instrumental in fundraising to help support the home visits of the Victorian Order of Nurses and has remained friends with many of the ladies she met there.
Mom was an accomplished seamstress. We remember spending countless hours on the 3rd floor of Silverman’s as she happily selected material and patterns. Her designs were unique. She could always see beauty in the finished product before it began and they were even better is could add buttons and bows.
Mom was artistic in so many ways. She embroidered, knitted, made Ukrainian Easter Eggs, made and decorated wreaths and was happy to teach us to do the same.
Mom and Dad enjoyed every minute of their years together, at home with family, at their camp on Charlton Lake and wintering in Florida for many years. Wherever they went they embraced meeting new people and making lasting friendships. They are now united and happy to be together again.
We will miss her every day.
Our sincere thanks to all of the support we have received from friends and family.
Although her time there was short, we thank the staff at Pioneer Manor for the care and compassion they showed to Mom (and us) every day that she was there.
In lieu of flowers donations to Maison McCulloch Hospice or a charity of your choice.
