Obituary for Maria Teresa Pagnucco (Piccin)

PAGNUCCO, Maria - It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Maria (Piccin) Pagnucco at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving family, on July 21st, 2018. Cherished wife of Gerardo (predeceased 1968). Loving mother of Franco (predeceased 2017, Kelly Shultis), Valerie (Grant Starko), and Carla (Norm Groulx). Treasured Nonna to Christina, Taylor and Julia. Dear daughter of the late Giovanni and Teresa Piccin of San Fior di Sotto, Italy. Loving sister of Irma (Nino, both predeceased), Ida (Mario predeceased), Pietro (Ida), Angelo (predeceased)(Aurora), Francesco (Bruna), Carletto, Italo (Ines), and Alvise (Pierina predeceased). She is sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.

Maria was an extremely hardworking individual. She helped construct her own house and provided unwavering support for many fellow Italians and their families who came to Canada seeking new beginnings. The matriarch of the family, she epitomized the true meaning of devotion to family and friends. She was a great mom who instilled humility, integrity and honesty in the children she raised on her own after being widowed at a young age. She always put the needs of her family above her own. Maria was a fabulous cook and great wine-maker and it was well known that she was the Queen of Crostoli. She welcomed everyone into her home and ensured that no one ever left hungry or thirsty. She loved to sing, dance, play cards and was a fantastic story/joke teller. She demonstrated boundless courage, determination, strength, and resilience her entire life. Her generosity, outspokenness, vivaciousness, and wisdom in the form of proverbs will be greatly missed. There is and will only ever be one MARIA.

We wish to thank Dr. Mirka and Dr. Singh for their unwavering support and Maison McCulloch Hospice for their exemplary care.
