Rudy Brunelle
Brunelle, Rudy A. (1946-2018)
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Rudy A. Brunelle announce his passing on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the age of 71, after a series of illnesses.
Born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario by the late Elly & John A. Brunelle, Rudy was an honourable man who cared deeply about doing the right thing. He devoted 30 years of service to the Sudbury Regional Police Service, retiring as a Staff Sergeant in 1997. Still full of energy and wanting to see more of the world, Rudy enjoyed seven-and-a-half years of trucking across Canada and the United States, sometimes with his wife in the passenger seat. He fully retired in 2005, often spending the winters in the warmth with his Florida friends.
Rudy was an avid motorcyclist who rode with the SCRC 418. He also deeply enjoyed scuba diving and was a long time member of the Dolphin Aquatic Club. Rudy spent many summers cruising Georgian Bay with family and friends. He was a past Commander of the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron of Sudbury. The recipient of a kidney transplant in 1996, Rudy was an active member of the Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Committee of the Irish Heritage Club of Sudbury. Rudy was also an executive member of the Sudbury Regional Police Retirees Association.
Rudy is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Marsha (née McGregor), his son John (Naila), his sisters Karen (Raduz) and Lillian (Bill), as well as his sister-in-law Karen (Bob). He was pre-deceased by his brother Mark (Denise). Rudy will always be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, close friends and family, and his dear neighbours.
The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Mirka for her kindness and care throughout the years, as well as the wonderful staff at Sudbury Health Sciences North for their support.
A Celebration of Rudy’s life will be held on Thursday, November 1st, 2018 from 2-5pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 76 Sudbury, 1553 Weller St., Sudbury. Donations in Rudy’s memory can be made to the Irish Heritage Club of Sudbury Organ & Tissue Donation Awareness Committee. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.
