Obituary for Verino "Tag" Tagliabracci

Verino “Tag” Tagliabracci
December 2, 1923 – August 8, 2018

Quietly passed away at the age of 94 at the Maison McCulloch Hospice, where he received loving care during his stay.

Born in Espanola, he later moved to Toronto with his family. When the Depression hit, his family re-settled in the north, and has called Capreol home ever since.

Loving husband of 67 years to Jean (Legault). Proud and devoted father of Doug (predeceased)(Ruth, partner Jim Watters), Laurie (Dan), Lisa (Herman Wallenburg), and Maria (Ian Bardeau). Dear Poppa to Chris (Jenn), Stephanie, Evan (Kyla), Nicole, and Jason. Great grandfather of Ryan and Grayson. Predeceased by his parents Augusta (Tonelli) and Nazerino; sisters, Norma Del Papa (Silvio) and Lily Del Papa (Louis). Cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Tag worked at the CN Stores Dept. at 16 years of age, until he joined the army at 18, when he worked as a Radar Operator. After the war, he went back to the CN, transferring to the “running trades” from brakeman to conductor. He always enjoyed sharing stories of his railroad years and the men he worked with.

As a man who was adept with numbers and facts, he served as a Credit Union Director for many years; filled out income tax for up to 68 people each year. He was always community-minded; a few of the groups Tag worked with were Capreol’s Long Term Care and Assisted Living committee, and the Cemetery Committee. At the Cross Country Ski Club, he was one of the many workers to cut trails by hand and build the Chalet (even the original outhouse). He loved golfing with his special buddies, Mike, Norm, and Joe; gardening; woodworking; fixing anything; crosswords; sudokus; word-find puzzles. Self-taught and ambitious – teaching his children more by good example than words.

How can we ever thank so many friends and family; Dr. Walton and the palliative Shared Care Team that came to the house; the entire staff at Maison McCulloch Hospice for their support, skill, love, and hugs.

Visitation in the Lougheed Funeral Home, Hanmer/Capreol Chapel, 4605 Michelle Drive, Hanmer, 2-4 & 7-9pm Sunday with parish prayers at 3pm. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Peace Church, Capreol, on Monday, August 13th, 2018 at 11am.

In memory of Tag, please do something nice for someone. Donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice would be appreciated.
