Obituary for Eugene Stewart Byers
Eugene Stewart Byers, February 25th, 1934 - October 7th, 2021. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eugene Byers. Gene passed peacefully in his sleep at Pioneer Manor with family by his side. Son of the late Lorney Frances Byers and Beulah (Storie) Byers. Beloved husband of Pauline Byers, his wife of 65 years. Loving father of his daughter Karen Hinds (Doug) and his son Kevin Byers (wife Paulette). Loving grandfather of Kris-Ann Oster. Dearest brother to Clair Byers (predeceased), Clayton Byers (predeceased), Joannie Byers (predeceased), and survived by Murray Byers (Barb), Yvonne Brown, Lorney Byers (Linda), Wanda Wallace (John), Robert Jones (Pauline), and Ruth Jones.
Gene loved to spread happiness by helping others; his selflessness, generosity, kindness, and strength were admirable to everyone he touched. Gene operated the Nickel Range Barber Shop in Sudbury from 1956 until his retirement in 2014. The Nickel Range Barber Shop was Gene’s life. He spent many hours telling stories to his clients and passing on local chit chat. Eugene was a proud member of St. Andrew’s United Church and will be missed by all.
The family thanks the wonderful staff at Pioneer Manor, especially Park Place staff, and a special “thank you” to Dr. Moe St. Martin. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Andrew’s United Church would be appreciated. At Gene’s request, there will be no funeral visitation or service.
