Obituary for Walter Gordon "Smitty" Smith

Walter Gordon Smith “Smitty”
It is with great sadness that the family announces Gordon’s peaceful passing surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 13th, 2021 a few weeks shy of his 96th birthday. Son of the late Myrtle Dover and Donald McDonald.
Beloved husband for 68 years of the late Beatrice Smith (nee Beaudry). Gordon is survived by his 3 daughters, Debra (Ron), Susan, Louise (Lorne), his sisters Clara, Myrtle, Pearl and Chelsey; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his sister Mamie and his brothers Bud and Chris as well as 2 great grandchildren.
Smitty was an active member in his community of Levack and a familiar face and friend to so many. He always had a smile on his face and a skip in his step. He was a proud veteran, an avid outdoorsman and had a real passion for travel. He especially loved spending time “back home” on the East Coast with his many friends and family. His visits will be missed dearly by special friends Theodore, Cindy, Heather & Rossi. Smitty was a story teller. He loved chatting about his years as a Marine, his travels over the years and his fierce pride in his family. He was a self-proclaimed euchre and cribbage champ who patiently taught anyone who wanted to learn to play. Those who knew him have so many wonderful memories that they will treasure forever.
Special Thank You to the team at Maison McCulloch Hospice for their compassionate care of Walter during his stay.
A service for Walter Gordon Smith will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 503 at a later date. There will be a private burial service for the family. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Sudbury Park Lawn Cremation Services.
