Yvonne was born in Sudbury on March 19 1921, to Marie and Henri Regimbal. She grew up in the Flour Mill area marrying Dolor Obonsawin on June 23 1939. She raised 4 Sons Maurice (Linda), Roger (Ljuba) of Brantford, Denis (Linda) and Ronald (predeceased). Later to great joy became the Memere and Grandmother to Russell (Lyette), Tanys (Marc), Chris (Barb), Craig (Lori), Nathan (Cait), Megan (Neil), Aaron (Carla), Brent (Kanina) and Cory (Crystal) and many Great Grand Children. Sister of Edna (Hector) and Pre deceased by Laurent, Gerard, Viola, Robert, Jonny, Armand and Paul. Yvonne spent her life fighting for the rights of Women living among her community. She attended Algonquin College graduating in 1978 as a Community Development Worker, returning to Sudbury to continue her work. Her legacy includes the establishment of O’Connor Park in the Flour Mill where children finally had a safe place to play. She was a pioneer of the Local Women’s Movement, involved with Women Helping Women among many other feminist organizations. She was featured in the Laura Sky Production “All of Our Lives”, about how women face economic hardship and emotional isolation in old age. Quoting one of her proud grandchildren… “She was a wonderful grandmother to me, and I was always so proud of the different causes she embraced, and the way she challenged the idea that after a certain age one should just ‘fade away’. She spent her retirement years in Elliot Lake working with the Elliot Women’s Group, The Women’s Crisis Centre and The Women’s Resource Centre and was involved in establishing a Wellness Clinic. Her activities reached into the Anishnaabe of the North Shore where she was welcomed as a part of the community, and found a peaceful connection with the Creator. Her family is proud of her accomplishments, her strength of spirit, her gentle nature, and have learned a lot from her.
