OZOLS, Betty - It is with deep sorrow that the family of Betty Ozols announce her passing on September 20, 2016. Betty will be sadly missed by her two nephews, Peter Hunt (Nicole, previously deceased) and Ray Hunt (Carolyn), great nephews and Nieces Peter (Tammy), Patrick, Sarah and Ryan and many relatives in Pittsburgh. Betty was predeceased by her husband Al; her parents Peter and Bridget Cosco and by her sister (and best friend) Theresa Hunt. Betty was a devoted aunt, sister, and friend who gave unselfishly to help others. Never having had her own children, Betty assumed a role as Peter and Ray’s second Mom. Betty was always one to take the lead on family events/dinners and dealing with crises. Her strong faith, strength and spirited sense of humor were an inspiration to the family. Even during her recent courageous battle with cancer, she always remained optimistic and ready for the challenge.
Betty was the “best cook in the world”. Family dinners and get togethers were always popular with Betty taking charge in the kitchen. Her Italian roots produced some amazing dishes that will long be remembered.
Betty was born in Sault Ste. Marie and moved to Timmins at a very young age. She left Timmins to attend Teachers College in Thunder Bay, where she met her husband Al. The two lived and worked in British Columbia for a time and returned to Timmins in the early 1970s. This became Betty’s home for the rest of her life. Betty taught for many years with the Timmins Board of Education, spending most of her career at Coronation and Pinecrest Public Schools. She was a very devoted teacher and always put her students first.
There will be no visitation, but the family would like to invite friends to the funeral mass on Monday, September 26, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church (Timmins) Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Health Sciences North Research Institute would be appreciated.
