Harry Alfred Warren
92 years
Peacefully, Friday December 30th, 2016, surrounded by his family, at Extendicare York St. Sudbury.
Beloved husband of Rita (nee Labonté) Warren of Dowling and predeceased by his first wife Margaret “Maggie” (neeYagnach) Warren in 1997. Loving father of Mary (husband Andrew Bouffard), Molly (husband Graham Trott), Barbara (husband Glen Grieve), Barry (wife Debbie), Gary (wife Carole), Penny (husband Charles Godfrey) and Janet Kirkey (partner Don Duval) and step children Sherry-Ann (husband Arnd Rosilius) and Darren (wife Crystal). Will be sadly missed by 20 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents Albert and Sarah (nee Kish) Warren. Dear brother of Vera (husband Ken Brown), Harold (wife Doreen) and predeceased by James (wife Elsie), Ernie, Irene Laroche, Edgar, Gordon, Charlie, Roy (wife Hilda) and Helen.
Harry was born in North Crosby, Leeds County, Ontario. He worked for Falconbridge Nickel Mines for 30 years, retiring in 1989. During that time he was on the Mine Rescue Team and the First Aid Team. A Veteran of WWII, he served his country for 4 years and 11 months and on December 8th, 1944 he received a citation from Field Marshal B.L. Montgomery for outstanding service and great devotion to duty. Harry was one of the founding members in the organization of Branch 503 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Onaping, becoming its charter president in 1949. A member of St. John’s Ambulance from 1954 to 1966, he was also chairman of the group committee for the 1st Onaping Scouts and Cubs. Since 1947, he was an active member of St. John’s United Church in Levack as well as Larchwood United Church in Dowling, assisting with Sunday School and an active board member for 40 years. He also kept himself busy as a volunteer for the Cancer Society, the Lions Club, a palliative care worker for 10 years, and donated his blood until the age of 70. Harry’s proud moments in his life were when he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth ll Diamond Jubilee Medal on November 10th, 2012 for his community service and in 2013 he was awarded the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Medal.

Interment at the Maplecrest Cemetery.
A memorial service under the auspices of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 503 Onaping will be held Monday at 7:30pm.
Donations in memory of Harry to the Alzheimer Society, the Canadian Red Cross Society or to the Larchwood United Church Fund would be appreciated.
