In Loving Memory
Of
Edward E. Hreljac
October 8th 1939 – April 26th 2017
It is with great sadness that the family of Edward Elmer Hreljac announces his passing on Wednesday, April 26th, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer. Ed died peacefully at home with loving family by his side.
Ed is survived and will be forever missed by Pauline (Dennie) his loving wife of 57 years. Predeceased by his parents Mathew and Branka Hreljac and his parents-in-law Maurice and Marguerite Dennie. He was cherished by his four children Kerry Lee Maloney (Michael) of Keswick, Ted (Debbie) of Sudbury, John (Sharon) of Sudbury, and Jim (Tara) of Nestleton Station. A much loved and adored Poppa to his grandchildren Matthew (Heather), David (Jess), Maggie (Pierre), Andrew (Jessica), Carolyn (Alex), Emily (Kyle), Michael, Alyssa, Jaden (Kiel) and Morgan. Dear brother of Hurley (Arletta predeceased), Mary (Lou predeceased), John (Maureen predeceased), Frank (Karen), Vic (Beth), and Lillian (Ed). Dear Uncle Eddy to many. Missed and never forgotten by best golfing pal Marcel, lifelong friend Walter and many friends and business associates. A special thank you to Tracy of Bayshore for her assistance and compassionate heart.
Ed was born in Creighton Mine where his parents settled after emigrating from Croatia. He remained emotionally tied to Creighton his entire life. As a youth Ed was a talented athlete, particularly in badminton. Ed's many successes on the badminton court led to him winning the Canadian Junior Championship at the age of 19. In 1983, he was inducted into the Sudbury Sports Hall of Fame for these achievements. After Ed met Pauline "Hon", the girl next door, they won each other's hearts and began their life together. Their early years were challenging yet rewarding as they welcomed four children into their lives. In 1965, Ed attained his Chartered Accountant designation and in 1971, he opened his own public practice in New Sudbury. For over 50 years, Ed guided his many clients, who respected his advice, his integrity, and his unparalleled work ethic. He welcomed his son John as a partner to the practice where they worked side by side for the past 26 years. Ed's love of sports continued throughout his entire life. He was an avid golfer with memberships first at Cedar Green, then the Idylwylde, and then at Timberwolf. Ed was a life-long fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Giants but no team could compare to his beloved New York Yankees. However, anyone who knew Ed, knew that his first priority and the greatest loves in his life were his wife, his children and his grandchildren. The wonderful memories they all created with Eddy, Dad and Poppa will be forever cherished.
