Obituary for Ozzie Carriere

Ozzie Carriere
CARRIERE, OSWALD (OZZIE) PAUL – With mixed emotions, the family of Ozzie Carriere announces his death on August 25th, 2017. Ozzie passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, at the Maison McCulloch Hospice, after a long battle with cancer. Predeceased by his parents, Eugene and Clara (Pelletier) Carriere, and his wife Laura (Ross) after 65 years of marriage. Survived by his loving children, Gary (Lois) of Markstay, Wayne (Gisele) of Sudbury, and Darlene Courville (Gill) of Hanmer, and cherished grandchildren Karry-Lynn (Jason), Michael (Jennifer), Leslie (Anna), Lisa, Tyler (Natalie), Ryan (Marlene), Chad, Darren (Laura), Angie, and George (Laura), as well as many great-grandchildren. Ozzie is survived by his dear sister, Theresa Johnsen of London, and predeceased by his sisters Veronica (Fallu) and Henrietta (Charrier) and brother Harold. He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews as well as many friends he made over his life of 90 years.

Ozzie worked for INCO as a brick layer for 42 years, and retired to a life of travelling and devoting his time to his loving wife, enjoying all the family get-togethers of all occasions. Ozzie was an avid sports fan, cheering for his grandchildren at their sports activities and supporting his family and friends in all their endeavours. He was an enthusiastic critic of baseball and hockey, right up to his last days. He lived his life to the fullest with all of his activities, which included bowling, golfing, darts, card games, and dancing at the Legion and the Caruso Club. He will be especially missed by all his dance partners, as he was always a willing participant and loved getting up on the dance floor, trying new moves.

Special thanks go to Ozzie’s dear friend Marguerite, for her companionship and caring, while he was at Red Oak Villa; your kindness will never be forgotten.

The family is very thankful and appreciative of Dr. Singh and his staff for all they did for Ozzie during his illness, as well as the staff and PSWs at Red Oak Villa for their support and kindness. Special thanks also to the staff and volunteers of Maison McCulloch Hospice for the compassionate support and many kind gestures while Ozzie was a resident there. They all made his last days more comfortable and manageable, for both Ozzie and his family.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice (Stand By Me Campaign) would be appreciated.
